Peace for Today StaffThe office staff are devoted volunteers, who open mail, answer letters, fill requests, and duplicate many hundreds of audio tapes each month. The host of the programs is Marge Lakes, who started as a volunteer nearly thirty years ago. John Price joined the program in 1988 as announcer and producer. Through the years there have been many talented individuals who have lent their support — the most recent of whom is Reverend Larry Cosgrove who is the Wednesday morning speaker. Of course, Peace for Today wouldn't exist at all if it not for our founder, Ken Haystead. Marge Lakes
Marge Lakes began listening to Ken Haystead on Peace for Today about thirty years ago during a very difficult time in her life. The helpful upbeat atmosphere of the show, coupled with Ken's practical advice for daily living brought Marge the direction and inspiration she had been seeking to handle several formidable life challenges. As soon as her health and emotional vitality returned, Marge asked Ken if he could use some help with the show. Soon she became Ken's valued helper, later his co-host, and about ten years ago after Ken's passing, the President and host of Peace for Today. Ken Haystead has achieved immortality through Marge and her thoughtful selection of his tapes from prior broadcasts. Peace for Today addresses today's issues though a format of monthly and weekly themes. John Price
John Price, once a radio engineer for KIEV, had been handling the numerous engineering details needed to keep a talk radio station running smoothly. In scheduling and cuing tapes for broadcast, he would listen only as necessary to synchronize program material. One little program, unique in its positive outlook of life being rich, full, and good, soon captured his attention and admiration. Since 1988, John's mellifluous voice has been introducing each Peace for Today broadcast. Reverend Larry Cosgrove
Reverend Larry Cosgrove, a long-term friend of the Peace for Today family, has been bringing his unique perspective to the show for several years. Like Marge Lakes and Ken Haystead, Larry offers gentle spiritual insights to many of life's challenges and daily irritations. |
Ken Haystead, FounderYour day goes better if you start it right. These favorite words of Ken Haystead simply express the philosophy of the popular weekday radio program, Peace for Today — 15 minutes of bright, encouraging words guaranteed to get your day off to a good start.
For more than thirty-five years the program has shared insights on living, built around the premise that life is the process of growing and becoming a fully alive human being . . . enjoying the experience of the here and now. It reinforces the belief that life is meant to be abundant and joyful. Kenneth Haystead was an articulate man, warm and perceptive, truly in touch with the times and able to give keen insights in coping with everyday problems, as well as psychological and spiritual concerns. He was a successful church leader for forty years, but at age fifty-nine made a dramatic life change, returned to school and earned a Masters Degree in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling and was about to finish his Doctoral program for Clinical Psychology when he succumbed to cancer. Mr. Haystead often said that he "grew up right in front of his listeners" as he shared life involvements, mid-life crisis, a late-life career change, and ultimately cancer. He was an inspirational role model in many ways and his hundreds of messages on tape live on, although he was taken from us in 1987. It was often said of him that he was a man ahead of his time, and his forward-looking and direct approach to everyday living is just as applicable and practical today as in the past. Born in England on March 6, 1916, Kenneth Mark Haystead came to Sacramento, California at age three and began his public ministry in his teens. He began Peace for Today daily broadcasts in Portland in 1964 as a hobby and later branched out to many large cities with daily programs. It was in 1974 that Peace for Today was incorporated and received government approval as a qualified non-profit organization. Peace for Today gets close to listeners as individuals, encourages them, and offers them a more fulfilling way to live. Peace for Today gives something that is spiritually positive, personally practical and immediately helpful to each person. Memories of Ken Haystead
